What is Breathwork?
‘Breathwork’ is the official term used to describe a modality that uses conscious, connected breathing (or circular breathing) for the purpose of achieving altered states of conscious and deep healing and transformation.
How Does it Work?
Circular breathing shifts the body's oxygen/carbon dioxide ratios and blood alkalinity. In contrast to many breathing practices that activate the ‘rest and digest’ Parasympathetic Nervous System to induce relaxation, Breathwork purposefully activates the Sympathetic Nervous System, in order to charge the body with awareness.
What's the Technique?
With conscious connecting breathwork is full body breathing, usually with a wide open mouth. You will breathe deep into your belly, without a pause between the inhale and exhale. In most Breathwork modalities the emphasis will be on an active inhale, and you will be encouraged to make your exhale passive.
